Group History
Having served an electrical apprenticeship with the Southern Electricity Board, Tony Morgan started his own business in November 1963.
Sales in the first year amounted to £4,291.6s 11d
Tony (pictured circa 1964) traded under his own name until 1967 when the business became known as Wessex Electricals and was subsequently incorporated in 1972.
Wessex Electricals steadily grew through the ‘70s and ‘80s gaining an enviable local reputation as a company that people could trust to deliver a timely service in a professional and friendly manner.In 1984 there were very few regional alarm companies and Wessex Alarms was founded (now named Wessex Fire & Security) and quickly established itself as the region’s No 1 provider of fire & security systems.
Following the success of Wessex Fire & Security we established separate departments for major project works, which became Wessex Building Services Ltd in 1998, and commercial catering equipment maintenance, which became Wessex Catering Maintenance Ltd in 1991.
Whilst the Group does not have strategy to acquire other business, we were presented with a unique opportunity to take over Andover based Wiltshire & Willy Electrical in 2005 and they continue to be a successful and valued member of the group
The Group still remains a family owned business. Simon Morgan joined the Company in 1985 and Alistair joined in 1993, Tony retired fully in 2006, although both sons had assumed executive responsibility in 2001
Wessex has grown organically and sales now amount £25 million and we employ over 300 Staff. The company has always been managed on sound financial principles, without significant reliance on credit. We anticipate, and look forward to, future growth and success.
