Royal Bournemouth Hospital

Wessex Building Services were contracted to install mechanical and electrical works for a new theatre area with the plant room to be situated in the roof void.

Work consisted of installing 4 air handling units, associated duct work, chilled water pipe work, LTHW heating pipe work together with domestic services serving four operating theatres.

Works were carried out while the hospital was still in operation which involved cutting into existing services. As the operating theatres had to remain fully functional, minimal disruption / shutdown to the existing operating environments were of paramount importance.

Opened in 1992, The Royal Bournemouth Hospital contains a £6.5 million state of the art cardiology unit and services up to 700 acute beds including Intensive Treatment Units and High Dependency Units. There is also a 24-hour Accident and Emergency Department which sees around 60,000 patients a year.

“I have much respect for Wessex Building Services; they are a truly professional company who coordinated their work with the Hospital very well and I would have no hesitation in using them for major mechanical and electrical works whatever the situation.”

Neil McKay (Former Contracts Manager Dean & Dyball)
