Wessex help Shaftesbury Police get on their bikes

Wessex Fire & Security is helping make the streets of Shaftesbury safer by donating three specialised bikes to Shaftesbury Police’s new cycle patrol.

Wessex Fire and Security has partnered with Shaftesbury Town Safer Neighbourhood Team by sponsoring the much-needed bikes to enhance the service the Community Beat Officer and Police Community Support Officers already provide.

Neighbourhood policing within the town is currently carried out by more traditional methods such as foot and car. The high-specification bicycles will help increase response times as well as create a high-visibility reassurance for the community.

Director and general manager of Wessex Fire and Security Stuart Fisher said: “We’re delighted to be involved with such a valuable initiative. The presence of these three bikes will undoubtedly help reduce crime in Shaftesbury and increase feelings of safety amongst members of the community.”

Inspector Phil Cheverton of North Dorset Police said: “I have already received many positive comments from the public as a result of the higher visibility of the officers who, due to the sponsorship from Wessex Fire and Security, are now able to cover a much wider area. This enables the officers to respond more effectively to the areas where issues are taking place, providing a much-improved service to the general public.”

The donation of the bikes from Shaftesbury-based Wessex has been an entirely local project, with the bikes supplied by Wheels of Gillingham and the sign writing carried out by Signwrite of Shaftesbury.
